Corporate History

In June 1985, APA International (originally an acronym for American Placement Associates) was established by two co-founders with the intent to assist graduates in their transition from academia to commerce. Within no time, the company became known throughout the city as a premier search firm. The co-founders, having a flair for languages and entrepreneurial spirit, channeled their knowledge to positively influence the employment industry. Cognizant of the City's multicultural environment, they've promoted candidates with diverse language skills and cultures to clients interested in expanding globally. This reputation helped strengthen APA's stature in the community at large, and within only a few years the company's client base encompassed firms that required personnel with knowledge of Japanese, Spanish, French and Chinese languages. APA International quickly became a proven leader in satisfying the recruitment needs of multinational firms.

Due to the tremendous growth of the Japanese market in the US during the late 1980s early 1990s, APA once again took the initiative to develop its Japan Desk and currently it accounts for nearly one-half of the company's profits. By remaining in-tune to the needs of the growing Japanese marketplace, APA International's Japan Desk is consistently providing quality bilingual and often times trilingual candidates.

In 1997, before the internet was widely established as a recruiting tool, APA emerged as a frontrunner in technology by launching our first state-of-the-art corporate website. Clients and jobseekers immediately recognized this initiative as an intrinsic value of APA's position in the employment and recruiting market. Sophisticated and aesthetically designed, www.apaintl.com provided instant display and up-to-date description of the various notable positions available.

Just as the millennium turned, APA International continued to expand its base in the non-bilingual sector, even as it strengthened its foundation languages. This was achieved by fostering relationships with human resource professionals, ongoing discussions with managers and individual business leaders seeking the growth of their companies. Due to our profound understanding and balanced perception of both business and candidates' needs, we were consistently able to provide staffing solutions to diverse industries.

In October 2001, despite the post 9/11 adverse impact on New York's economy, APA has retained their staff and with faith and perseverance increased its employee size rather than follow the than- popular trend of layoffs. APA stayed true to its core values in assisting candidates to achieve their career goals. Today, APA continues its quest to combine value-added services to the business community at large.

This year witnesses the twentieth anniversary of our distinguished firm and to complement our progress APA has revamped our corporate website, and began generating position and news updates. We have also increased our efforts internationally in Japan and China by developing affiliations. These exciting addition further highlight APA as a dynamic and valuable resource within New York's business and employment-seeking community.

The growing needs of the business community continually shape our future. Just as the demographic body of New York evolves; so will APA meet the changing environment. Come and contact an account executive today, and find out why APA International truly speaks the language of recruiting!
